While the troop is boy-led, there are a lot of activities that occur behind the scenes to ensure safe, correct, and meaningful experiences for our sons. We are proud of the fact we have as many adults registered with the troop as we do boys. Adults (dads and moms) can serve as either Assistant Scoutmasters or Committee Members. Additionally, there are "one-off" volunteer opportunities as Adult in Charge of a campout, service project, merit badge day, etc. Adult leaders must join the troop and pay annual fees, and maintain a level of training to ensure compliance with scout regulations and for the protection of our boys.
Adults have fun, too. We make sure that the adults have fun as well--many of our parents really look forward to campouts not only for their sons' benefit, but because of the friendships and fun we share during these weekends. While scouting can be daunting to many, the best advice is simply step up and try one volunteer activity. That's how each of us started. Refer to the resources to the right for additional guidance: SM Assistance: This document outlines our Bull Patrol--the roles and responsibilities of the Scoutmaster and Asst. Scoutmasters in the troop: The Adult Leadership descriptions for Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters, and Committee Members provides the troop guidelines for these important roles. There are some mandatory training requirements for adults which are outlined in the training document. Expenses incurred on behalf of the troop are reimbursed using the form on the right and an original receipt. Remember, a scout is thrifty. |
