Steps to Obtain a Merit Badge
A. Merit Badge Class or Camp
1. Scout signs up for MB
2. Adult-in-charge emails Recordkeeper with selections
3. Recordkeeper checks for duplicates and initiates blue cards
4. Scoutmaster signs blue cards
5. Scout works on requirements at camp/class
6. Counselor provides list of completed requirements to Adult in Charge
7. Adult-in-charge emails completed requirements to Recordkeeper
8. Recordkeeper enters completed requirements into TM
9. Scout gets periodic report from TM on completed requirements
10. Scout finds a counselor for remaining requirements
11. Counselor communicates completed requirements to Recordkeeper
12. Repeat 8-11 until all requirements complete
13. Blue card goes to Advancement Chair
14. MB awarded at COH
15. If scout not present at COH, MB awarded at next troop meeting
B. Independent work
1. Scout decides to work on MB
2. Scout gets SM approval and SM issues a blue card
3. Scout finds a counselor
4. Proceed from step 11 above
Roles
Adult-in-Charge - adult leader of event where Merit Badge classes are being held: summer/winter camp, Merit Badge Day, etc.
Merit Badge Counselor – conducts classes, certifies completion of requirements
Troop Recordkeeper – initiates blue cards, enters requirements into Troopmaster electronic database; maintains blue cards in sync with Troopmaster
Advancement Chair--obtains badges upon completion of requirements
